
Hot Cross Buns
Traditional and delicious hot cross buns perfect for Easter.

- 1 Baking tray
Ingredients

- 500 g Flour all-purpose
- 75 g Caster sugar
- 2 teaspoon Mixed spice powder
- 10 g Salt
- 10 g Instant yeast
- 300 ml Milk warm
- 2 Eggs beaten
- 50 g Butter melted
- 200 g Raisins
- 75 g Orange zest freshly grated
- 75 g Apple peeled and diced
- 100 g Plain flour for piped cross
- 80 ml Water for piped cross
- 50 g Apricot jam for glaze

- Mix the flour, sugar, spice, and salt in a bowl.
- Warm the milk and add yeast, let stand for 5 minutes.
- Combine milk mixture with beaten eggs and melted butter.
- Mix wet ingredients with dry until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough and add raisins, orange zest, and apple.
- Cover dough and let rise until doubled in size, about 1.5 hours.
- Divide dough into 12 pieces and shape into balls.
- Place on baking tray and leave to prove for another hour.
- Mix plain flour with water to make a paste for the cross.
- Pipe crosses on top and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 20-22 minutes.
Notes
Serve buns warm with butter or jam.
