
Kashmiri Chai - Authentic Pakistani Pink Tea
This traditional Kashmiri Chai is a rich, creamy, and aromatic pink tea made with green tea leaves, baking soda, milk, and spices. A soothing and festive beverage that’s a staple at special gatherings in Pakistani households.
Equipment
- 1 Pot Large enough to simmer tea
- 1 Sieve For straining tea leaves
- 2 Bowls For aerating tea back and forth
- 1 Ladle For pouring and serving
Ingredients
Main ingredients
- 6 tablespoon Kashmiri Tea Leaves
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- ¼-1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 5-6 Cardamom Pods
- 1 Badiyan ka Phool optional
- 1 small piece Cinnamon stick optional
- 2 cups Ice cold water mixed with ice
- Finely chopped pistachios & almonds
- ⅔ cup Milk per serving
- Additional minced nuts

Instructions
- Add all the ingredients except the ice cold water to a pot with 8 cups of cold tap water. Bring to a boil, simmer for one hour or until the liquid is halved.
- Strain out the green tea leaves.
- Pour the ice cold water from a height into the tea concentrate to aerate.
- Continue pouring between bowls or using a ladle for 5-7 minutes until a rich pink foam forms.
- Bring the aerated tea mix back to a boil. The kahwa is now ready.
- To make a cup: Take a ladle (⅓ cup) of kahwa, bring to boil, add ⅔ cup milk and splash of water, cook 2-3 minutes. Serve topped with crushed pistachios.
