Cooking Instructions
Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and set aside.
Melt butter in a large saucepan on medium heat. Stir it good as it melts so it don’t burn.
Whisk in your flour to that melted butter and keep stirrin for 1 to 2 minutes until it turns golden. This is your roux base, gotta cook out that raw flour taste.
Slowly pour in the whole milk, whiskin' all the while so you avoid lumps. Keep cookin until you see the sauce thicken.
Add in cayenne, ground mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, and pinch of nutmeg if you want. Then salt and pepper to taste to make it perfect.
Now combine your drained pasta with the sauce, stir it till evenly coated. Then toss in the shredded chicken and barbecue sauce, fold it gently so everything mingles well.
Heat on low until combined and warmed through. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and a drizzle of barbecue sauce, if desired.
Serve it hot, y’all, maybe sprinkle some more cheese or drizzle extra BBQ sauce on top for that extra kick. Garnish with parsley so it looks as good as it tastes.
Notes
Use rotisserie chicken to save time and get great flavor without extra cooking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
