Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper if desired.
In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
Unroll one can of crescent dough onto a clean surface and separate it into rectangles.
Brush the rectangle with melted butter, then sprinkle a generous amount of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top.
Fold each rectangle in half lengthwise, pressing the edges to seal, then cut the folded dough into strips about 1 inch wide.
Twist each strip several times to create a spiral shape, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the tops of the twists with the egg wash for a shiny finish.
Repeat steps 3-7 with the second can of dough.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired.
