Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). If using a pre-made crust, follow package instructions for pre-baking, usually around 10 minutes until lightly golden. Allow to cool.
In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt, whisking until well blended.
In a saucepan, combine the sugar mixture with water and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture starts to thicken and bubble, about 3-5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the butter if using, stirring until melted. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
Add the hulled and halved strawberries to the cooled glaze, gently stirring to coat.
Pour the strawberry mixture into the pre-baked pie crust, spreading evenly.
Chill the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to set before serving.
Serve slices of the pie with a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
