  • 1 lb ground beef fresh or from package
  • ¾ cup heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 14 oz canned diced tomatoes undrained
  • 8 oz uncooked pasta short pasta like penne or rotini
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ sweet yellow onion chopped
  • 1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • fresh parmesan cheese optional for garnish

  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  • Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until aromatic.
  • Add ground beef, break it up with a spoon and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and fully cooked.
  • Stir in tomato paste, Dijon mustard, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes to blend flavors.
  • Pour in canned diced tomatoes with juice and stir. Reduce heat to low.
  • Slowly stir in heavy cream. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add cooked pasta to the skillet. Toss until fully coated with sauce and simmer 2-3 more minutes.
  • Optional: Sprinkle with fresh parmesan before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat gently with a splash of cream or water. Optional: freeze in single portions for meal prep.
