Rice Paper Dumplings Recipe (pan sear or air fry)

Crispy, tender, and packed with flavor, these rice paper dumplings are loaded with veggies and seared or air fried to perfection. A gluten-free, savory appetizer or snack!

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz coleslaw mix finely shredded cabbage and carrots
  • 3.5 oz fresh shiitake mushrooms diced small
  • 0.3 oz ginger grated
  • 0.3 oz garlic grated, about 2 medium cloves
  • 3 bulb scallions diced
  • 4 tablespoon avocado oil divided
  • 0.25 teaspoon coarse sea salt plus a pinch
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 10 pieces rice paper rounds 22 cm wide
  • 1.5 tablespoon coconut aminos for sauce, or 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1-2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil for sauce
  • ⅛-1/4 teaspoon sriracha optional
  • 1 sprinkle toasted sesame seeds optional

  • Heat 2 tablespoon avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add shiitake mushrooms and sauté for 3–4 minutes.
  • Add grated ginger, garlic, and scallions. Cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in coleslaw mix. Cook 3–4 minutes until tender but not soggy. Season with salt, coconut aminos, and sesame oil.
  • Let filling cool slightly.
  • Dip 1 rice paper sheet in warm water for 5–7 seconds to soften.
  • Place softened sheet on surface. Add about 1 tablespoon filling. Fold sides and roll like a burrito. Repeat for all sheets.
  • For pan sear: heat 2 tablespoon oil in skillet. Fry dumplings 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Work in batches.
  • For air fry: brush dumplings with oil. Air fry at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway for even crispiness.
  • Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

Stuff dumplings ahead or batch freeze them flat first to enjoy later. Use one or two rice paper sheets based on preference for texture and wrapping ease.
