Equipment

  • 1 Skillet Preheated over medium heat

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 4 slices thick sliced bread like Artesano bread
  • 3 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons pizza sauce plus extra for dunking
  • 2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh basil leaves
  • 1 pinch dried oregano
  • 24 slices pepperoni thin slices, about 1 inch diameter
  • Butter for brushing the bread
  • 6 slices more pepperoni thinly sliced

Instructions

Instructions

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat while you get your stuff ready.
  • Butter one side of each bread slice so the outside gets nice and crunchy.
  • On the unbuttered side of two slices layer mozzarella, pizza sauce, pepperoni, Parmesan, basil, and oregano. Stack it up!
  • Top with the other bread slices, butter side facing out so it grills right.
  • Place sandwiches carefully in the skillet, hear that sizzle? Cook about 3-4 minutes till golden brown.
  • Flip the sandwiches and cook another 3-4 minutes till the cheese melts perfectly and bread turns golden again.
  • Pull off the heat, let them sit a minute so they don’t squish all the filling out when you cut them.
  • Slice in half, grab that extra pizza sauce for dipping and dig in warm. It works real good hot.

Notes

Use pre-shredded cheese to skip the grating step—it’s one less thing to wash up too.
Butter your bread while the skillet heats up so you’re efficient and ready to go.
If you’re in a real hurry, lay all the ingredients on the bread ahead of time and keep sandwiches wrapped in the fridge till you’re ready to cook.
