Equipment

  • 1 medium saucepan
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup granulated sugar Feel free to experiment with other sugars as alternatives.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional for a more pronounced flavor.

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries and maple syrup. Heat over medium heat until the mixture starts to simmer. Stir gently to ensure the cranberries are coated in syrup.
  • Allow the cranberries to simmer for about 5 minutes until they begin to pop and soften slightly. Remove from heat and let them cool in the saucepan for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the cranberries from the syrup, transferring them to a mixing bowl. Reserve the maple syrup for another use if desired.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar and salt. Add the cooled cranberries and toss them in the sugar mixture until well coated.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the sugar-coated cranberries in a single layer. Allow them to air dry for about 30 minutes to an hour until the sugar crystallizes.
  • Serve the Maple Sugared Cranberries as a garnish for desserts, in salads, or enjoy them as a sweet snack.

Notes

For a more pronounced flavor, you can add vanilla extract to the cranberries while they simmer.
These cranberries can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
Feel free to experiment with other sugars as alternatives to granulated sugar for a different taste.
