Cook the rice according to package instructions. Set aside.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain excess fat from the skillet if necessary.
Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the beef. Stir and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Pour the soy sauce mixture over the beef in the skillet. If using, add broccoli florets at this stage. Stir well and let simmer for 3-5 minutes until the flavors meld and the broccoli is tender.
Serve the ground beef over cooked rice. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
For extra heat, consider adding a splash of sriracha or red pepper flakes.
You can easily substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
This dish pairs beautifully with a side of steamed vegetables or a simple cucumber salad for a refreshing crunch.
