Hot Honey Chicken Biscuits

Golden crispy fried chicken nestled between buttery, fluffy biscuits, topped with a warm drizzle of spicy-sweet hot honey. A comforting southern-inspired sandwich to make any day better.

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl for flour and egg wash
  • 1 Heavy pan or pressure cooker for frying
  • 1 Baking sheet for biscuits
  • 1 Biscuit cutter 2.5-inch
  • 1 Saucepan for hot honey

Ingredients
  

For the Fried Chicken

  • 1.5 to 2 pounds chicken tenders or boneless breasts cut into 1-inch thick strips
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour seasoned for coating
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 large egg plus 2 tablespoons water, beaten
  • vegetable oil canola or peanut oil, for frying

For the Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup cold butter cut in
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted for brushing

For the Hot Honey Drizzle

  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

  • Mix flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika in a bowl for coating.
  • Whisk egg and water. Dip chicken in flour, then egg, then flour again, pressing to coat.
  • Heat oil in pan or pressure cooker on saute to about 350°F. Fry chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towel-lined plate and keep warm.
  • To make biscuits, mix dry ingredients, cut in butter until coarse crumbs form, then stir in buttermilk.
  • Turn dough onto floured surface, fold, flatten and repeat 2 more times. Cut biscuits with floured cutter.
  • Bake biscuits at 450°F for 15-17 minutes until golden. Brush with melted butter.
  • For hot honey, simmer honey with pepper flakes. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar.
  • Assemble: Split biscuit, place fried chicken inside, drizzle with hot honey. Serve warm.

Notes

For best crunch, serve immediately after assembly. Reheat chicken in air fryer to restore crisp. Biscuit dough can be made ahead!
