Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 stand mixer (optional)
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 pastry brush
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 ½ cups warm milk (110°F or 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
  • Once foamy, add in the melted butter, salt, and eggs. Mix well until combined.
  • Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until the dough begins to come together. If using a stand mixer, you can switch to the dough hook at this point.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  • Place the shaped dough balls on a greased baking sheet, leaving some space between each roll.
  • Cover the rolls again with a towel and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Once they have risen, bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter for added flavor and shine.
  • Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra soft texture, you can substitute a portion of all-purpose flour with bread flour.
If you want to get creative, try adding herbs, garlic, or cheese into the dough for a flavorful twist.
Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
