- 6 strips bacon Approximately 6 ounces.
- 1 medium onion Diced.
- 3 cloves garlic Minced.
- 1 small head green cabbage About 2 pounds, shredded.
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar Optional.
Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon strips and cook until crispy, about 7-10 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, leaving the rendered fat in the skillet.
In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the diced onion. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and slightly caramelized.
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
Carefully add the shredded cabbage to the skillet. Toss the cabbage with the onion and garlic mixture, then sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
If desired, add the apple cider vinegar during the last minute of cooking and mix well.
Crumble the cooked bacon and stir it into the cabbage mixture. Remove from heat.
Serve hot as a delightful side dish, and enjoy!
For a touch of heat, consider adding red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños.
