1 serving dish
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped chives for garnish
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once heated, add the sliced onions and sprinkle with salt and sugar.
Sauté the onions for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are deeply caramelized and golden brown.
Once the onions are caramelized, remove them from the heat and let them cool slightly.
In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
Fold in the cooled caramelized onions until evenly distributed throughout the creamy mixture.
Transfer the dip to a serving dish and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Before serving, garnish with freshly chopped chives.
You can adjust the seasoning based on your taste preferences.
This dip can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
