Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • salt to taste salt
  • pepper to taste pepper
  • ΒΌ cup grated Parmesan cheese Optional.
  • fresh parsley, chopped for garnish fresh parsley Optional.

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes until they are caramelized and golden brown.
  • Stir in the rice and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the flavors of the onions.
  • Pour in the beef or vegetable broth, and add the dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and has absorbed all the liquid.
  • If using, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until fully melted and combined.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

For a more intense flavor, you can roast the onions longer until deeper caramelized.
Vegetable broth can be used for a vegetarian option.
You can customize the dish by adding cooked mushrooms or bacon for extra flavor.
