Mix warm milk with the yeast in a big bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
Add sugar, egg, and softened butter to the yeast mix. Stir until combined.
Slowly add flour and salt. Mix gently until a dough starts to form.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
Punch down the dough and cut into 12 equal pieces. Roll into balls.
Place dough balls in a greased dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush rolls with egg wash.
Melt butter with garlic, cook until fragrant, and drizzle over rolls.
Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden and perfect.
Notes
Serve warm with additional garlic butter if desired.
