  • 1 cup warm whole milk about 110 degrees Fahrenheit
  • 3 teaspoons active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • cup sugar adds sweetness
  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 large egg for richness
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt to balance flavors
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 1 egg yolk for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash
  • ¼ cup salted butter melted for topping
  • 2-3 garlic cloves finely chopped for topping

  • Mix warm milk with the yeast in a big bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add sugar, egg, and softened butter to the yeast mix. Stir until combined.
  • Slowly add flour and salt. Mix gently until a dough starts to form.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  • Punch down the dough and cut into 12 equal pieces. Roll into balls.
  • Place dough balls in a greased dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush rolls with egg wash.
  • Melt butter with garlic, cook until fragrant, and drizzle over rolls.
  • Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden and perfect.

Notes

Serve warm with additional garlic butter if desired.
