Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Do not grease the tube pan.
In a small bowl, sift together the flour and ½ cup of granulated sugar. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium speed until foamy. Add the cream of tartar and continue to beat on high speed until soft peaks form.
Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of granulated sugar, about 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition until stiff, glossy peaks form.
Gently fold in the vanilla and almond extracts, along with the salt.
Gradually sift the flour mixture over the egg whites, folding in gently using a rubber spatula.
Pour the batter into the ungreased tube pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and springs back when touched.
Remove the cake from the oven and immediately invert the pan onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
Once cool, gently run a knife around the edges of the pan and lift the cake out. Serve with fresh berries and whipped cream.
