Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or spoon
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 oven

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix 3.9 oz
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk 240 ml
  • ½ cup vegetable oil 120 ml
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, instant chocolate pudding mix, eggs, milk, and vegetable oil. Use a whisk or spoon to mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the cake batter evenly.
  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the entire cake, making sure to cover it well. Do not stir; the liquid will create a luscious chocolate sauce at the bottom.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top appears set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Let the cake cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

Notes

This cake is best served warm, but it can also be served cold.
Feel free to add nuts or different types of chocolate chips for a variation.
For the best flavor, allow it to rest for a few minutes after baking to allow it to set slightly before serving.
