Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 frying pan or deep fryer
  • 1 slotted spoon
  • 1 paper towels
  • 1 cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (for thickening)

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Gradually add water to the dry mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms.
  • Dip each piece of chicken into the batter, making sure it is fully coated.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan or deep fryer over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the battered chicken pieces in small batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Remove using a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Meanwhile, in a separate saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and stir until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the crispy chicken pieces with the honey garlic sauce until well coated.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by modifying the amount of honey. For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes.
Pair this dish with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
Leftover chicken can be refrigerated but is best eaten fresh to maintain crispiness.
