  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for sauté base
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef browned
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ¼ cup flour to thicken sauce
  • 1 28-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 pound Rotini pasta cooked
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet on medium heat. Saute diced onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef. Brown, breaking it apart, until no pink remains, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic, dried basil, oregano, salt, and crushed red pepper until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over beef mix and stir thoroughly; cook 1 minute to thicken.
  • Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth, stir to combine.
  • Transfer everything to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 hours.
  • Serve over cooked Rotini pasta, topped with grated cheddar cheese.

Notes

Best served fresh with a hint of parsley for garnish. Store leftovers in airtight containers in the fridge for maximum 4 days.
