Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 pastry cutter or fork
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper (optional)
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 knife or dough cutter

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter Cold and cubed.
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder Optional, for extra flavor.

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper if desired.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and garlic powder (if using). Whisk together until well mixed.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  • Transfer the dough onto a well-floured surface. Pat or roll the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  • Using a biscuit cutter or a knife, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each biscuit.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter or your favorite spreads.
  • For a richer flavor, consider brushing the tops of the biscuits with melted butter right before baking.
  • These biscuits can be frozen after baking for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven when ready to serve.
  • Experiment with adding herbs or cheese to the dough for different variations.
