  • 1 lb ground beef for the filling
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese for the filling
  • cups shredded mozzarella cheese divided
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 20-25 jumbo pasta shells
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  • In a bowl, mix ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper together.
  • Fold in cooked beef and onion garlic mixture into ricotta mix.
  • Cook jumbo shells according to package directions and drain.
  • Fill each shell with the beef and cheese mixture and place in baking dish with marinara sauce.
  • Cover with remaining sauce and top with leftover mozzarella, cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake 10 more minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

Serve with a sprinkle of fresh basil or parsley. Adjust seasonings to taste.
